Japanese Teacher Training

TCJ has produced able Japanese instructors through "theory" and "practice" training.

With our original "Epistemological Direct Teaching Method" (EDM), we have fostered promising instructors proficient in Japanese that "can teach Japanese in Japanese to anyone anywhere in the world".
This course is thorough training composed of "Theory" designed for the Japanese-language teaching competency test, "Practical technique" involving a study of class activities, and "Practice teaching" involving an actual guidance to international students. "A teacher's license" can be acquired upon completion of the 420-hour course accredited by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

TCJ has a 10-year track record in the periodic training programs in Hawaii and Australia. This program is a hands-on training with a focus on teaching practice at the elementary school through university, and the Japanese language school for adults.

Training program in Hawaii Exchanges with Japanese-Americans give you valuable lessons, which is an opportunity of communication of heart with heart across the water that has been carried out in succession for years. In fact, some of TCJ students have forged close ties with them via homestay even after the program.

Training in Hawaii
Term 7 days (extension of your stay available for up to 90 days)
Activities Japanese teaching practice at the University of Hawaii, teaching practice at Japanese language schools (elementary and junior high schools), teaching practice at adult classes, lectures, etc.
Cooperation The University of Hawaii, The Consulate of Japan in Honolulu, The Honolulu Japanese Teachers Association, KZOO Broadcasting Station, Japanese-Hawaiians living in Hawaii, etc

TCJ's training program in Hawaii is an integrated learning program centering on teaching practice at local education institutions such as the University of Hawaii. The history of Japanese immigration to Hawaii goes back 130 years (the immigrants from China, The Philippines, Puerto Rico, Korea, and Okinawa are also observed).
The history of Hawaiian predecessors has laid down the "climate in which all ethnic groups cooperate together to build a society" through conflicts. Today, many Japanese-Americans flourish in a variety of fields, and the University of Hawaii is known to have the best Japanese Language course in the world. The agonized history, however, has underlay the current status that Japanese-Americans and Japanese Language education have established and stand on now in Hawaii. The footsteps of the Japanese-Americans during the war are highly valued for their contribution and activities. [Reference: Ryokan, Ara. Japanese-Hawaiian Solders: Heibonsha, "American Infantry Regiment 442: World War II to Second Generation Japanese-American" (Video presented by Bungei Shun Shu)] (Professor Ryokan Ara is a TCJ's special lecturer for the Hawaii Training Program.)
In this program, you will learn the teaching methods that are fruits of a longstanding language education the University of Hawaii has engaged in. You will also gain experience of hands-on teaching practice in accordance with the study results of the teaching methods, which stimulates you to interact with the learners of Japanese and prompts you to look back on the history lying between Hawaii and Japan. This program is for anyone who has an interest in Japanese education and Hawaii.
